Back to school. Monday morning was rough...not smooth at all. Nobody wanted to get up and move. The beds were warm and cozy and it was still dark outside. Did we really have to get out of bed and head out into that cold darkness...for school?
Well, we did need to, and we did it. It wasn't pleasant, but it was done...and once it was done, fun was had by all. We had a snow day on the last scheduled day of school prior to the Christmas break. The kids were all happy about that...except that the class Christmas parties wouldn't be happening. Monday, the first day back, most of the teachers decided to hold at least a bit of a party in the afternoon. The excitement of the party and seeing all of their friends turned the sad start of a day into a very happy one after all!
Tuesday started off a bit better. Things went a bit more smoothly in the morning. B however, felt sick and stayed home. I erred on the side of caution and gave her the day. When she gets tired or run down, she gets sick...and it holds on. We are working to prevent that from happening. Luckily, she never ran a fever. She did sleep quite a bit though. By 2:00 she was getting back to her happy self. Thank goodness! D was wound up and happy to have his sister home with him for the day...even if she was sleeping quite a bit or laying around. He watched a movie with her and "read" books to her. He can do "3" very well, but he can also be a real sweetheart. Gotta love him!
A and C enjoyed their day at school with the excitement of the time with their friends carrying them through.
Today, it snowed. Not a lot, but steadily. On top of ice. Nice. The school day began as scheduled. The weather wasn't that bad...just enough to slow traffic down. Mr. D and I spent the day together, back to our "normal". We played puzzles, cars, and trains. We watched cartoons, drank juice, and ate goldfish crackers. It was nice. After the three older kids, I realize all too well that this time goes by very quickly. I am trying to savor it, I guess. We also went to the grocery store. They have the race car and pick-up truck carts there. We HAD to have the pick-up truck. D drove us through the store, having to stop and check the engine, and work on the engine from time to time. He is also quite the helper when it comes to choosing the items too! Needless to say, our shopping trip takes a bit longer this way... and we get quite a few smiles and comments from a number of the older shoppers! I am sure they realize that it doesn't last very long in the grand scheme of things. D (and A, B, and C for that matter) are very good reminders for me to just slow down, simplify, be in the moment and enjoy!
That is my goal for this year...just slow down, simplify, be in the moment, and ENJOY! Life is too short not too!
